Learning the last mile connectivity

With so much technology around me i am dazed.
I am wondering what is BREW and whether i can sample some
Test programs on it and then move it to my mobile,
Came the thunder of transferring data from one
Device to another.

Currently the wireless method i know are
Infra red, blue tooth and, laser link.
Also wireless LAN help us more.
I am looking more into wireless LAN
For trying different type of connectivity.
